Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the flights/tours and flying in the Zeppelin NT. If you have any others then please contact us.
Yes of course. Our flexibility means we can also arrange other parts of your trip if you wish.
Can we join a group tour?
Individuals, couples etc, can join our regular scheduled tours at the individual travel price. Please note that a minimum number of people is needed for such tours to be viable, and in the event of a shortfall of numbers you will be offered an alternative.
What happens if the Zeppelin is unable to fly?
As with any flying machine the Zeppelin is dependant on the weather conditions and the airship will not fly in fog, heavy winds or thunderstorms. The operating company, Deutsche Zeppelin Reederei, has sole responsibility for all operational matters including cancelling flights due to either inclement weather or technical reasons. We will endeavour to reschedule the flight during your stay in Friedrichshafen. In the unlikely event that your flight does not happen at all, then the price of the Zeppelin flight will be refunded.
Can young children fly in the Zeppelin?
DZR suggest a minimum age of two years old. However we would recommend at least six years or more. Children must be accompanied by an adult and bear in mind that it is one passnger per seat regardless of their age. There is no upper age limit for passengers.
Can disabled passengers (in a wheelchair)
fly in the Zeppelin?
DZR inform us that passengers must be able to walk a short distance independently and sit in a regular seat. Otherwise unfortunately they have to exclude them from the flight for safety reasons.
In general terms many aspects of the tour do entail some walking, but nothing too excessive.
How safe is the Zeppelin NT?
Unlike the famous airships of the past the NT is filled with inert and entirely non-flammable helium gas. The airship has been fully certified by the aviation authorities to the highest standards for passenger operations.
This is the biggest manned helium-filled airship in the world at 75m long. For more technical info see our Zeppelin NT page.
Do I need to wear any special clothing to fly in the Zeppelin?
Normal every-day clothing is fine. Be sure to wear sensible shoes as the landing field may be a little uneven. High heels are not permitted.
May I smoke on the flight?
No. All flights are strictly non-smoking.
What items can I take with me on the flight?
Carry-on baggage is limited to items for personal use during the flight - one camera per passenger is reccommended by DZR. Please note that the use of certain electronic devices is strictly prohibited at all times: mobile phones, radiotelephone communication equipment, CD players, PCs with printers, CD-ROMs or cordless mouse, televisions and radio-operated toys. Others such as video cameras may be used - please observe the directions of the cabin attendant.
Do you cater for vegetarian and special diets?
All meals have vegetarian options. If you have other special dietry requirements then please contact us so we can make appropriate arrangements.
